Most cast iron cooking products come pre-seasoned and ready to cook (like this Lodge Logic 10.5" Square Skillet 3/4" Deep), but whenever the pan begins to rust or flake any black specks, it just needs a little TLC and it will look like new again! This process is known as “seasoning”, which is a simple, quick process!
1. Clean your skillet. All you need is a small amount of water and a small amount of mild detergent. Scrub the pan with a scrub brush (like this Lodge 10" Scrub Brush). Do not let pan soak; dry completely with paper towel or dish towel.
2. Oil your skillet. Rub pan (inside and outside) with a small amount of cooking oil.
3. Bake your skillet. Place a piece of aluminum foil on the lower rack of your oven to catch any drippings. Place your skillet face down on the upper rack of the oven, and bake at 350° for 1 hour. Let your skillet cool completely in the oven.
